Maximizing Orthopedic Surgery with Pre- and Post Operative Physical Therapy

The series, held four times per year, is designed to improve cerebral palsy care by providing participants and faculty a forum for interaction and collaboration. The series is hosted by Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center Clinical Director, orthopedic surgeon Joshua E. Hyman, MD who will invite a guest speaker for each session.
We are kicking off the series on Thursday March 7th, 2024 12:00-1:00PM ET with guest speaker pediatric physical therapist Lisa Yoon, DPT who will discuss the topic of pre and post operative physical therapy to maximize recovery and outcome of orthopedic surgery in children with cerebral palsy.
Our agenda will begin with an introduction from Dr. Joshua Hyman who will also serve as our moderator for the series. We will cover:
- Joshua Hyman, MD - A brief overview of indications and goals for hip surgery for children with cerebral palsy
- Lisa Yoon, DPT - Pre-op & post-op therapy and how to restore function to before surgery
- Case discussion
- Questions and answers
Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center
The Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Cente (the Center) at Columbia University is dedicated to improving the lives of people with cerebral palsy (CP) through comprehensive care, research and education. The Center coordinates care by specialists in orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, neurology and genetics, with a special focus on the holistic well-being of patients and families through primary care, social work and mental health care. The Center provides resources and educational programs for the CP community and develops the next generation of health professionals through education and case conferences. It is the only CP center in the country to house a basic science program. Research at the Center focuses on developing new treatments to improve function through repair of the nervous system, with the aim of improving the quality of life for people with CP.
