Course Description
The global transition to clean energy is accelerating demand for critical minerals, renewable energy systems, and sustainable industrial development. Resource-rich developing economies have a significant opportunity to leverage these sectors to support economic growth, strengthen resilience, and advance climate goals. At the same time, governments, institutions, and stakeholders must address complex challenges related to policy, governance, infrastructure, environmental protection, financing, community impacts, and responsible resource management.
The Executive Training on Minerals, Energy, Climate, and Sustainable Development explores how mineral and renewable energy value chains can contribute to sustainable development and climate action in developing economies. Through a combination of asynchronous preparatory material and interactive live online sessions, participants will examine the interconnected policy, legal, financial, environmental, and social dimensions shaping the global energy transition.
Drawing on expertise from the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment and the Columbia Climate School, the training provides practical frameworks and interdisciplinary perspectives for navigating the opportunities and challenges of critical minerals, renewable energy systems, and decarbonization strategies.

There are no formal prerequisites for this training. Participants should have a professional interest or background in climate policy, sustainable development, energy systems, mining, infrastructure, natural resource governance, or related fields.
All participants must be able to read and communicate in English.
